Saturday Meme- 5 Favourite Blogs

Here we are again at another week’s edition of Saturday Meme, along with dear Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything! :) I was THIS close to skipping this week’s Saturday Meme because I’ve been very swamped with work (Nothing new), but decided against it in the end. However, it does look like my behind will be parked here in Labuan for a little while more longer than I’ve expected :s Not that it’s a bad thing in a way, but it’s kind of stressful when you do kind of need to manage two places and make sure everything’s running smoothly! I also seem to quite miss shooting product photos with my studio box, and oh, of course I miss my guinea pig and Corgi there.

Hmm but enough digression, I shall now present to you this week’s Saturday Meme topic- 5 Favourite Blogs, which will essentially be blogs which I’ve quite recently-ish discovered and have been stalking reading more frequently lately :) I do also visit a few more other blogs, but I shall mention ones that I’ve been frequenting more recently instead! And as usual, not in chronological order or order of favouritism!

1. XKCD- Blag Of The Webcomic

Not exactly a regularly updated blog that one would expect, but when it is updated it’s always very interesting and at most, quite thought-provoking. It’s the “blag” (The author, Randall Munroe, created the word) of one of the few webcomics that I read regularly, XKCD, which is a very interesting one not only because of its simplicity (Stick figures, but well-drawn ones!), but also because of the subject matters (Science, maths, language, sci-fi and the like). Yes, aren’t you surprised that a non-beauty-related blog ended up on the list of a beauty blog’s favourite blog list? :P

2. Worshipblues

This is the blog of the ever wonderful Yasumi, who also runs the Fushigi Shop, which has been featured here on Beaute Fabuleuse as one of my favourite avenues for handmade “fings” (Yet another coined word! But this time by Yasumi herself) here :D Ever-quirky, ever-beautiful, ever-oh-so-interesting, it is never dull but always breathtaking. Be prepared to be amazed by stunning photos and her way with prose and feel inspired by her words! I am truly out of words to further describe this lovely blog, except that it’s gorgeous and inspirational in every way.

Saturday Meme- 5 Favourite Books

This week is going to be a small little simple Saturday Meme, since both Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I are quite busy lately (Her post this week is postponed again) :) And considering that the both of us love reading and as a whole, books, we give you this week’s Saturday Meme5 Favourite Books! Wait, 5? There must be more, you say. Well, yes, there should be way more than just 5 but I don’t want to bore you so I’m going to just write about 5 :P

So here’s my 5 Favourite Books not listed in order of favouritism. I chose this 5 as the ones that came into my head, and mostly ones that have left quite an impression on me and ones that I’ve been reading over and over again without really getting bored of :)

1. American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Image nicked from Neil Gaiman

I own, and have read most, if not all of Neil Gaiman‘s novels and short story anthologies, but my favourite has got to be American Gods. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of Neil Gaiman‘s works and a fan of his writings, but American Gods is the one book from him that constantly stands out in my head (Second place goes to The Graveyard Book, however) and whenever I think of Neil Gaiman‘s books. Maybe it’s because of the way mythology is intertwined (I am a huge fan of mythology) into the story, maybe it’s because it’s a grippingly interesting tale on its own, I don’t know, American Gods is definitely one Neil Gaiman book that I love!

2. The Tale Of Murasaki by Liza Dalby

Image nicked from here

Enchanting is the word to describe this book. It’s set in the Heian period in Japan, and for that reason this book is quite a beautiful piece of work. I particularly love the snippets of poetry laced in the story (It plays a rather important role), and the descriptions of the attire, and I am enthralled by the culture of the book as a whole. I always end up feeling a little more “cultured” after reading it, because that’s how the book is to me. This is easily the oldest book in this list, and I still do re-read it from time to time :)

Saturday Meme- 5 Travel Must-Haves

In this week’s Saturday Meme, the lovely Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything (Delayed due to unforeseen circumstances) and I shall talk about something that we seem to be doing quite often, and especially this month- travelling! I seem to travel a lot by plane myself, as I’ve been flying back and forth Labuan and K.L. ever since I was a child- my family’s business is in Labuan where I grew up and all relatives are in K.L. so we travel from Labuan to K.L. to visit them (Especially my late grandparents) but now it’s reversed and I mainly travel from K.L. (Where Mum, little brother and I have moved to for our tertiary educations since about 6+ years ago- Dad‘s unable to move due to the business) to Labuan to help out with the family business (Especially now). Kota Kinabalu (Commonly abbreviated as K.K.), Sabah is quite a frequent destination for me as well :) I digress… sorry for the rambling and personal disclosure, but I do get asked a lot about it though :x

Naturally, there must be something that we just have to have around when we travel, hence this week’s Saturday Meme topic! So in no particular order, my 5 Travel Must-Haves– things that I have to have with me when I travel :) Take not though that most, if not all of them, are more “recent” must-haves, which means that I’ve only started having them with me when I travel since at least 10 years ago and not from childhood  :P

1. Lip balm

Image nicked from Dr. Hauschka Skin Care.

Lip balm is a definite must on my carry-on, because I find that my lips react very quickly to the dry cabin air in flights. The trick here for me though, is to constantly re-apply, especially whenever my lips start to feel dry (Also, I up my liquid intake as well). My current favourite is Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stick, which keeps my lips hydrated for much longer without feeling tacky or sticky or being heavily-fragranced, which can give me a headache *_*

2. Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Water Spray

Image nicked from Eau Thermale Avene.

This is an absolute Holy Grail/HG for me, as I’ve mentioned here (And yes the picture is recycled from there too) :) Apart from having it as a staple in my skincare/makeup routine, I carry along the smallest sized bottle when I travel and spritz it on my face, and it does a very good job of keeping my skin soothed and well-hydrated, especially during my travels where I am exposed to air conditioning and dry-ish air :P My skin hardly feels dry and/or tight when I travel, but it can be a little flakey if I am not careful so this works very well to prevent it!

Saturday Meme- 5 Pet Peeves

Welcome to this week’s installment of Sukie‘s of A Little Bit Of Everything and my Saturday Meme! :) For this week again we’re going to be diverting again from beauty-related stuff and instead of sunshine and rainbows, dear Sukie suggested that we talk about things that annoys us, hence our 5 Pet Peeves :P It would be quite abnormal if you didn’t have stuff that annoys you, right?

This post might sound a little bitchy (Excuse the language :P) and/or ranty, but I guess that is what happens when you talk about things that annoy you :x So here are my 5 Pet Peeves, listed not in order, and not by degree that annoys me the most :P There are more pet peeves that I have of course but these are the ones that just came to mind as I’m writing this post down haha!

1. Disorganisation

Image nicked from here.

In other words- clutter or a mess. It could be my obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) speaking, but I absolutely cannot stand disorganisation of any sort, and this is especially true when it involves things that belong to me, my space (My room for instance) or if I’m sharing space(s) with others (Unfortunately), though it applies more to the first two :s I think the longest personal record I’ve had for leaving my room messy (With papers on my table and books on the floor, for example) was two days, due to illness, and after which I couldn’t take it and cleaned up, sick or not :P For this reason also I clean my room, without fail, once a week, and try to do a more thorough cleaning once a month.

2. People who are mean to animals

Image nicked from Daily Otter

I think this is pretty self-explanatory? It’s a huge pet peeve, that also pisses me off big time. Especially if the animal in question happens to be a pet, which one should be loving and caring for, or an animal who has in no way attempted to provoke the person. There should be a special level in Hell for people like that :x

Saturday Meme- 5 Favourite Foods

It has been a very busy and hectic few weeks (Perhaps month, or even months ahead) for me as work hasn’t shown signs of slowing down, even after coming back from Labuan, that I missed last week’s Sunday Tip (I wanted to post one on later on the day but ended up needing to work too, such is the industry I’m in!), but I promise that I will try my best to not make that happen again! Apologies and please do bear with my sporadic posts, though I will still endeavour to get some posts written and posted :)

Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I did initially have something else planned for this week’s Saturday Meme, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it will have to wait (Or in worst case scenario it will be scrapped), but it will be something different, that we can promise (Unless of course it’s scrapped)! So instead for this week, in keeping with our self-proclaimed #VainGlutton tag, Sukie and I have decided to still do something a little different, to divert a little from beauty-related things and show you our 5 Favourite Foods! :D

1. Fourway crab crackers

Oh these are the bomb! They are ONLY available in East Malaysia (As they are made there, according to the back), this is confirmed, unless you have seen them somewhere in West Malaysia in which case please feel free to correct me. The exclusivity adds to the delicious unique-ness of this snack, and now my family and/or I tend to always lug some back from Labuan, after which it will be gone pretty quickly. I don’t usually take snacks like these, as too much can make me feel ill, and I don’t really like the taste of most snacks available in the market (Save some crisps), but I could devour an entire large pack (Pictured is a small pack) of this in one sitting and not feel ill at all and I love how it tastes! I really can’t describe how it really looks/feels/tastes (Savoury is the best word I could find to describe it’s taste at least) but I can only say that it’s simply awesome! :P

2. Pasta

Image nicked from here.

Lasagna, linguine, fettucine, penne, bolognese, arabbiata, puttanesca, marinara- it all doesn’t matter but I really like them all, and would order pasta most of the time if they are available :P My favourite pasta jaunt is Little Italy in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Gosh I seem to be advertising East Malaysia so far am I not? Not my intention though, sorry), a small, lovely place owned and managed by real Italians and serves the best Italian fare ever, that all the other Italian restaurants I’ve been to in West Malaysia so far can’t exactly match up (Recommendations/Suggestions welcome). I have extremely fond memories of their marinara pasta and their lemonade, and their zuppa di mare (Seafood soup) and I look forward to be able to make my next trip there as it’s been a long while and I miss it a lot!
