Delayed Saturday Meme- 5 HG Skincare/Makeup

Apologies for another delayed Saturday Meme that also replaced this week’s Sunday Tip– I just flew in to Labuan (For work, until this 13th August) yesterday night and was too knackered, and I’ve been very busy all week hence being unable to draft and/or schedule the post in advance :(

This week dear Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I will list out our 5 HG (Holy Grail) Skincare/Makeup :D Granted, while writing this list I realise that I have more than 5… but I guess I’ll have to scale it down to 5 anyway :P Anyway, since I am also in Labuan now and with decanted/travel-sized/stripped-down versions of my usual skincare/makeup, I am unable to take photos of my HG skincare/makeup in their proper glory so I shall use stock images instead. Please do bear with me on this one!

1. Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion

Image nicked from Urban Decay.

This is a definite must-have in my arsenal. I hardly ever go out without some eyeliner if I can help it, and I have been using eyeliner since I was 19 years old, the first makeup I’ve used even before foundation/powder. Using eyeliner seems to make me look more polished and less tired (Yes, beats concealer most of the time for me) and after experimenting with a lot of different types and brands of eyeliners I have settled with the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion (Black) as my absolute HG- even when I still do try out other eyeliners, I seem to always come back to this. It’s easy to use, is super black (The way I like it) and lasts until you remove it (Or actually, rub it really hard, but that hardly happens), so what’s not to love? :D

2. Marie Veronique Organics Moisturising Face Screen SPF 30

Image nicked from Marie Veronique Organics.

Ah sunscreen, one of the more important skincare one could use, at least in my opinion. I’m a huge fan of Marie Veronique Organics Moisturising Face Screen SPF 30 (Which I have reviewed here) ever since I read it on Viva Woman and could get my hands on them (Thanks to my lovely boyfriend) :D I use a mix of both the Extra Light and Light versions to better suit my skin, and the reason why this sunscreen is HG for me is not only because it’s an important component in skincare, but also because it works wonderfully for me and I get a peace of mind using it as it has been rated as one of the top Best Moisturisers With SPF by the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep Sunscreen Guide, which attests to its efficiency, so I know I’m really protecting my skin :)

Saturday Meme- 5 Favourite Brands

Hurrah for getting the Saturday Meme on its proper day this week! ;) Hopefully it shall continue becoming a tradition as I am quite enjoying it, though sometimes brainstorming the contents can be a pain! :P

In this week’s installment of the Saturday MemeSukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I shall talk about our 5 favourite brands! Although admittedly I think we do favour more than 5 brands but for the sake of brevity we shall narrow it down to 5 or else it shall be a never-ending post :x

Without further adieu, here are my 5 favourite brands, again listed in no particular order:

1. RMK

I own and use the RMK Liquid Foundation (Reviewed here), RMK Pressed Powder N in 03 and the RMK Cheek Brush S, and I love them all! I have to say this is one makeup brand that has worked for me (More like my fussy, sensitive skin) so far and with good results, and I am mightily pleased with it so it earns a spot in this list! I would actually love to try more of their products- maybe their RMK Super Basic Liquid Concealer or RMK Super Basic Concealer Pact or eye make-up or lip products even (I’m not so sure yet myself!), but the downside for me is that the nearest available RMK counter to me isn’t exactly near so I don’t really have the luxury of being able to try out their products at my convenience… but I think it’s kind of a good thing in a way since that would mean my pocket is much happier :P

2. Timbuk2

This is my first “gadgety” functional bag love, introduced to me by non other than my dearest functional-bag-loving boyfriend Louis. I love their concept and I love their designs. I own a customised D-Lux Bondage Messenger in XS (Just the right size for me, as their sizes run big!), which I got during my last trip to Singapore as they had a standalone store there, and it cost me SGD 179 so it wasn’t exactly cheap, but is worth every cent! I look forward to owning more Timbuk2 bags though- maybe a Cargo Tote or the Harriet Shoulder Bag or another Messenger since they’re so functional, comfortable, tough and sturdy, but maybe not for a while yet since I have another functional bag in the post for me from my sister from another mister ;)

Sunday Tip #10

Every Sunday I shall share here a beauty tip that I’ve read or heard about, and leave my comments or thoughts on it. Please feel free to leave your views, too! :)

Air conditioning may keep you cool in the hot, humid weather (Which is how the weather has been lately, to me at least), but it can also dry out your skin. And temperature fluctuations from air conditioned places to non air conditioned places can wreck havoc too. So the best way to circumvent this is to keep hydrated and moisturised! That means using a body lotion for your body and a good facial moisturiser for your face. Also, if you’re sleeping in an air conditioned room, leave out a bowl of water or use a dehumidifier and ply on a moisturising sleeping mask (Like the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX) or a heavier facial moisturiser.

Personally, I’m happy using facial oils :P At night I apply a pump of Melvita Sweet Almond Oil (Compared to few drops in the morning if I need extra hydration) on my face before bed. For my body, I alternate between Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins The Way Of The Bath Matcha Tea Body Lotion or the O.P.I Avojuice Skin Quenchers in Vanilla Snowflake (Which I have reviewed here), but I like to apply them right after showering.

My Skincare And Makeup Routine February 2012

Being mildly obsessive compulsive, I like having a routine, and my skincare routine especially is one thing I never skip irregardless. There were a few times that I fell sick, but I still managed to go on with my skincare routine :P It just feels so awkward and weird just not having done my skincare routine! :\

Now I thought I’d let you all have a little peek into my “virtual” cupboard and let you see my skincare and makeup routine :P

So this is what I do in the mornings:

I cleanse with Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Cleanser, tone with Cellnique Soothing And Hydrating Lotion, apply Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Complex followed by Melvita Calendula Oil and top it off with Marie Veronique Organics Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30- Light Tint. Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Eye Serum goes around my peepers after cleansing and before everything else.

Face Oil Reviews Part 1

Face oils are a skincare staple of mine, of course :)

In one of my previous Sunday Tips, I have extolled the virtues of using oils, so I shall now present to you some of the face oils which I own and have tried. There’s also supposed to be Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil, Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Dry Oil and Melvita Argan Oil in the photo, but I’ve forgotten where I put the bottles already :P

A lot of people will cringe at the mention of “oil”, particularly those with oily and/or blemished skin, but apparently certain types of oils are good for reducing the bad bacteria that causes acne and pimples and to also regulate sebum production. And according to Marie Veronique Organics, using oils without any interference (From wax or other ingredients) allows the skin to receive the fatty acids it needs and to repair the skin’s lipid barrier. A damaged or compromised lipid barrier is what causes the skin to have problems such as acne, sensitivity and wrinkles. So oils are really suitable for people of all skin types, but then again it also depends on what oils.

I started using face oils seriously in 2008 when I had a severe breakout on my chin area from my part-time work that time and stress that wouldn’t go away, and was recommended the Eve Taylor Face Oil No. 3 after a facial at Aster Spring in 1 Utama. I was also taught the proper way to apply it (Right after cleansing), and it worked beautifully for me, so it has always been my “fall-back” for severe breakouts.

For this post I review a few face oils first as to not make this post long-winded :P And I will subsequently talk about the other face oils too!

My current favourite ones that I am using regularly now are from Melvita. I like how they’re “single” oils compared to most which are a blend of several oils, so it’s easier to see their effects on the skin, but that’s just my opinion.
