Delayed Saturday Meme- 5 HG Skincare/Makeup

Apologies for another delayed Saturday Meme that also replaced this week’s Sunday Tip– I just flew in to Labuan (For work, until this 13th August) yesterday night and was too knackered, and I’ve been very busy all week hence being unable to draft and/or schedule the post in advance :(

This week dear Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I will list out our 5 HG (Holy Grail) Skincare/Makeup :D Granted, while writing this list I realise that I have more than 5… but I guess I’ll have to scale it down to 5 anyway :P Anyway, since I am also in Labuan now and with decanted/travel-sized/stripped-down versions of my usual skincare/makeup, I am unable to take photos of my HG skincare/makeup in their proper glory so I shall use stock images instead. Please do bear with me on this one!

1. Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion

Image nicked from Urban Decay.

This is a definite must-have in my arsenal. I hardly ever go out without some eyeliner if I can help it, and I have been using eyeliner since I was 19 years old, the first makeup I’ve used even before foundation/powder. Using eyeliner seems to make me look more polished and less tired (Yes, beats concealer most of the time for me) and after experimenting with a lot of different types and brands of eyeliners I have settled with the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion (Black) as my absolute HG- even when I still do try out other eyeliners, I seem to always come back to this. It’s easy to use, is super black (The way I like it) and lasts until you remove it (Or actually, rub it really hard, but that hardly happens), so what’s not to love? :D

2. Marie Veronique Organics Moisturising Face Screen SPF 30

Image nicked from Marie Veronique Organics.

Ah sunscreen, one of the more important skincare one could use, at least in my opinion. I’m a huge fan of Marie Veronique Organics Moisturising Face Screen SPF 30 (Which I have reviewed here) ever since I read it on Viva Woman and could get my hands on them (Thanks to my lovely boyfriend) :D I use a mix of both the Extra Light and Light versions to better suit my skin, and the reason why this sunscreen is HG for me is not only because it’s an important component in skincare, but also because it works wonderfully for me and I get a peace of mind using it as it has been rated as one of the top Best Moisturisers With SPF by the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep Sunscreen Guide, which attests to its efficiency, so I know I’m really protecting my skin :)

My Skincare And Makeup Routine February 2012

Being mildly obsessive compulsive, I like having a routine, and my skincare routine especially is one thing I never skip irregardless. There were a few times that I fell sick, but I still managed to go on with my skincare routine :P It just feels so awkward and weird just not having done my skincare routine! :\

Now I thought I’d let you all have a little peek into my “virtual” cupboard and let you see my skincare and makeup routine :P

So this is what I do in the mornings:

I cleanse with Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Cleanser, tone with Cellnique Soothing And Hydrating Lotion, apply Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Complex followed by Melvita Calendula Oil and top it off with Marie Veronique Organics Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30- Light Tint. Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Eye Serum goes around my peepers after cleansing and before everything else.

Face Oil Reviews Part 1

Face oils are a skincare staple of mine, of course :)

In one of my previous Sunday Tips, I have extolled the virtues of using oils, so I shall now present to you some of the face oils which I own and have tried. There’s also supposed to be Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil, Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Dry Oil and Melvita Argan Oil in the photo, but I’ve forgotten where I put the bottles already :P

A lot of people will cringe at the mention of “oil”, particularly those with oily and/or blemished skin, but apparently certain types of oils are good for reducing the bad bacteria that causes acne and pimples and to also regulate sebum production. And according to Marie Veronique Organics, using oils without any interference (From wax or other ingredients) allows the skin to receive the fatty acids it needs and to repair the skin’s lipid barrier. A damaged or compromised lipid barrier is what causes the skin to have problems such as acne, sensitivity and wrinkles. So oils are really suitable for people of all skin types, but then again it also depends on what oils.

I started using face oils seriously in 2008 when I had a severe breakout on my chin area from my part-time work that time and stress that wouldn’t go away, and was recommended the Eve Taylor Face Oil No. 3 after a facial at Aster Spring in 1 Utama. I was also taught the proper way to apply it (Right after cleansing), and it worked beautifully for me, so it has always been my “fall-back” for severe breakouts.

For this post I review a few face oils first as to not make this post long-winded :P And I will subsequently talk about the other face oils too!

My current favourite ones that I am using regularly now are from Melvita. I like how they’re “single” oils compared to most which are a blend of several oils, so it’s easier to see their effects on the skin, but that’s just my opinion.

Marie Veronique Organics Products Review

I’ve always had my eye on Marie Veronique Organics since reading the raves from Viva Woman, but it’s not available in Malaysia, which is a huge bummer :( However, I was recently able to get my hands on them due to 1. my boyfriend having subscribed to a US forwarding address service and 2. it was near Christmas and they were having free shipping for US orders, so I took the opportunity to place my order.

Marie Veronique Organics is built on the philosophy of “Intelligent Ingredients“, meaning that all ingredients used are safe enough to enter the body, and as such their products contain absolutely no ingredients that could potentially be harmful to the body as well as toxic preservatives, petroleum-based products, fragrances, alcohol, parabens and fillers to name a few. Some of their ingredients are also certified organic, and are also fair trade and local whenever possible, with 100% recyclable packaging and labels. They even donate 10% of their profits to help women and children in third world countries.

I ordered the Gentle Cleanser and the apparently much-raved and loved Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30. I was pleasantly surprised to have received them on Friday23rd December 2011– which is before Christmas and before postal services shut down for the holidays, as I had actually expected to receive them somewhere in January :D

The products come in heavy brown glass bottles which are very luxe, but not very practical for travelling. I’ll have to think of something when I travel to Labuan next :( Both the cleanser and sunscreen comes with pumps to dispense the products, which is a huge plus because it’s more hygienic and minimises exposure of the products to air. I’ve no problems with the pumps thus far, it’s pretty easy to control the amount of product dispensed through them too.

This post might be a bit long, though :P
