Saturday Meme- 5 Travel Must-Haves

In this week’s Saturday Meme, the lovely Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything (Delayed due to unforeseen circumstances) and I shall talk about something that we seem to be doing quite often, and especially this month- travelling! I seem to travel a lot by plane myself, as I’ve been flying back and forth Labuan and K.L. ever since I was a child- my family’s business is in Labuan where I grew up and all relatives are in K.L. so we travel from Labuan to K.L. to visit them (Especially my late grandparents) but now it’s reversed and I mainly travel from K.L. (Where Mum, little brother and I have moved to for our tertiary educations since about 6+ years ago- Dad‘s unable to move due to the business) to Labuan to help out with the family business (Especially now). Kota Kinabalu (Commonly abbreviated as K.K.), Sabah is quite a frequent destination for me as well :) I digress… sorry for the rambling and personal disclosure, but I do get asked a lot about it though :x

Naturally, there must be something that we just have to have around when we travel, hence this week’s Saturday Meme topic! So in no particular order, my 5 Travel Must-Haves– things that I have to have with me when I travel :) Take not though that most, if not all of them, are more “recent” must-haves, which means that I’ve only started having them with me when I travel since at least 10 years ago and not from childhood  :P

1. Lip balm

Image nicked from Dr. Hauschka Skin Care.

Lip balm is a definite must on my carry-on, because I find that my lips react very quickly to the dry cabin air in flights. The trick here for me though, is to constantly re-apply, especially whenever my lips start to feel dry (Also, I up my liquid intake as well). My current favourite is Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stick, which keeps my lips hydrated for much longer without feeling tacky or sticky or being heavily-fragranced, which can give me a headache *_*

2. Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Water Spray

Image nicked from Eau Thermale Avene.

This is an absolute Holy Grail/HG for me, as I’ve mentioned here (And yes the picture is recycled from there too) :) Apart from having it as a staple in my skincare/makeup routine, I carry along the smallest sized bottle when I travel and spritz it on my face, and it does a very good job of keeping my skin soothed and well-hydrated, especially during my travels where I am exposed to air conditioning and dry-ish air :P My skin hardly feels dry and/or tight when I travel, but it can be a little flakey if I am not careful so this works very well to prevent it!

Sunday Tip #13

Every Sunday I shall share here a beauty tip that I’ve read or heard about, and leave my comments or thoughts on it. Please feel free to leave your views, too! :)

I think this is a really random tip, but this tip came to me randomly as an epiphany one day while I was out, my tattoo was just healing (I will have a post on this soon hopefully!) and I had forgotten to apply moisturiser on the area. I whipped out my lip balm (I was using Jurlique Love Balm and Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lip Moisturiser), wiped it gently with a piece of tissue paper, used my finger to dab the lip balm and then dabbed it onto my tattoo… and it worked very well! Oh and of course I wiped my lip balm with tissue paper again after that before using it on my lips :P

I have, also, in an extreme pinch, used lip balm as an emergency moisturiser on very dry patch(es) on my face when I have them and they show very obviously. Just a tiny bit will do (Application method similar to above), and if you seem to have overdone it and it looks oily just blot it gently it a piece of tissue paper. It worked very well and said dry patch(es) never materialised again for the rest of the day, and no, I didn’t look like I had an oily spot on my face :)

A little note though- I don’t think that using lip balms with menthol or mint or lip plumping properties or tingly lip balms in general would be a good idea as it MIGHT irritate the skin. I tend to try and use “neutral” or “gentler” lip balms. Either way to be on the safe side it’s best to test if your skin is allergic to your lip balm before trying this tip out, and if it doesn’t it’s good since you have emergency moisturiser on hand!

Sunday Tip #11

I thought I should bring it back… or should I? We’ll see, no? Anyway…

Every Sunday I shall share here a beauty tip that I’ve read or heard about, and leave my comments or thoughts on it. Please feel free to leave your views, too! :)

This is one tip that has always seemed to elude me every time I write my Sunday Tip, yet one that I’ve been practising every single night even before I started this blog (OK, sometimes I miss a few days when I’m really tired and just go to sleep). I have quite dry lips that does have a tendency to peel and/or crack, and I find this tip really helpful in alleviating it. It not only works in making my lips softer and smoother in the morning when I wake up, but I also find myself using less lip balm in the day to keep my dry lips at bay!

Right now I’m using The Body Shop Hemp Lip Protector, and it does the job well so far that I’ve been using it. For some reason I’m generally not that picky when it comes to the lip balm that I use at night compared to the lip balm that I use in the day, just as long as it keeps my lips well moisturised by morning :P

What do you think of the new font, by the way? Should I use this font or keep the old one? :P Do let me know! Font changed to the old one so that everything looks standardised :x

Saturday Photo Meme- What’s In Your Bag

So I have been off the grid for far too long (Been very busy, and although I have a few posts drafted, am not entirely satisfied with the photos I’ve taken for them hence the enormous delay), and so, at the beseeching and suggestion of dear Sukie from A Little Bit Of Everything, decided to start getting back into the groove with this post, which is so right up my alley too! :) It’s suggested by Sukie and taken from Yumeko of A Dream Of Tokyo.

Apologies for the dark lighting- it was night when I took these photos after Sukie suggested I do this post :P

1. Cellphone/Mobile Phone.

Black Apple iPhone 4, with a black LifeProof case. I got the sticker from Daiso for the back because I thought it was too plain. I preferred their koi sticker which I have previously used before, but thought of going for something different instead.

2. Wallet/Purse/Whatever You Keep Your Money In.

Simple black leather bifold from Braun Buffel. Just the right size for me :) It’s been with me for about 6 years now? Love it a lot either way :D

3. Something In Your Wallet (Cards/Coins/Money/Whatever).

I don’t keep my loyalty cards in my wallet because I have way too much (I have a separate purse for all of them-  the custom batik wristlet by Fion Poon that was very graciously gifted to me by the lovely Sukie as a graduation gift!), so pictured is part of the cards in my wallet- my NAUI Scuba Diver card and dearest Louis‘s name card (Which I keep a few of just in case) and some money of course :P

4. Makeup You Carry On The Go.

I’m not in the habit of touching up my makeup on the go (OCD really, and my makeup hardly fails me, touch wood), so I usually pack lip balm instead most of the time, and a lipstick for times when I need a little extra colour :P Oh, and I do carry an eyeliner JUST in case I forgot to apply it before leaving (Rare, but you never know) or really need to refresh my eyeliner (i.e. when I’m trying out a new eyeliner and it smudges/disappears). Pictured is Jurlique Love Balm, MAC Lustre Lipstick in Gem Of Roses, Great Barrier Island Bee Co. Manuka Honey SPF30 Lip Balm and Rouge Bunny Rouge Raven Glaze Lacquer Eyeliner.

5. Whatever Else You Wish To Share From Your Bag.

The aforementioned wristlet, the incredibly cute LeSportSac pouch I put everything else in (Tissues, wet wipes, hand sanitiser, aforementioned makeup, small notebook, a pen, spare cable, Sharpie) and my Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses in its case. I tend to want to travel as light as possible as carrying a too-heavy bag will result in painful shoulders as the day wears on, so I try to minimise the things I bring along and this is all :D

Please visit Yumeko‘s blog for the original meme post, and also fellow blogger Sukie‘s post on it too! :)

Hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the groove after this ;) Have a great weekend!

My Skincare And Makeup Routine February 2012

Being mildly obsessive compulsive, I like having a routine, and my skincare routine especially is one thing I never skip irregardless. There were a few times that I fell sick, but I still managed to go on with my skincare routine :P It just feels so awkward and weird just not having done my skincare routine! :\

Now I thought I’d let you all have a little peek into my “virtual” cupboard and let you see my skincare and makeup routine :P

So this is what I do in the mornings:

I cleanse with Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Cleanser, tone with Cellnique Soothing And Hydrating Lotion, apply Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Complex followed by Melvita Calendula Oil and top it off with Marie Veronique Organics Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30- Light Tint. Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Eye Serum goes around my peepers after cleansing and before everything else.
