Delayed Saturday Meme- 5 HG Skincare/Makeup

Apologies for another delayed Saturday Meme that also replaced this week’s Sunday Tip– I just flew in to Labuan (For work, until this 13th August) yesterday night and was too knackered, and I’ve been very busy all week hence being unable to draft and/or schedule the post in advance :(

This week dear Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I will list out our 5 HG (Holy Grail) Skincare/Makeup :D Granted, while writing this list I realise that I have more than 5… but I guess I’ll have to scale it down to 5 anyway :P Anyway, since I am also in Labuan now and with decanted/travel-sized/stripped-down versions of my usual skincare/makeup, I am unable to take photos of my HG skincare/makeup in their proper glory so I shall use stock images instead. Please do bear with me on this one!

1. Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion

Image nicked from Urban Decay.

This is a definite must-have in my arsenal. I hardly ever go out without some eyeliner if I can help it, and I have been using eyeliner since I was 19 years old, the first makeup I’ve used even before foundation/powder. Using eyeliner seems to make me look more polished and less tired (Yes, beats concealer most of the time for me) and after experimenting with a lot of different types and brands of eyeliners I have settled with the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion (Black) as my absolute HG- even when I still do try out other eyeliners, I seem to always come back to this. It’s easy to use, is super black (The way I like it) and lasts until you remove it (Or actually, rub it really hard, but that hardly happens), so what’s not to love? :D

2. Marie Veronique Organics Moisturising Face Screen SPF 30

Image nicked from Marie Veronique Organics.

Ah sunscreen, one of the more important skincare one could use, at least in my opinion. I’m a huge fan of Marie Veronique Organics Moisturising Face Screen SPF 30 (Which I have reviewed here) ever since I read it on Viva Woman and could get my hands on them (Thanks to my lovely boyfriend) :D I use a mix of both the Extra Light and Light versions to better suit my skin, and the reason why this sunscreen is HG for me is not only because it’s an important component in skincare, but also because it works wonderfully for me and I get a peace of mind using it as it has been rated as one of the top Best Moisturisers With SPF by the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep Sunscreen Guide, which attests to its efficiency, so I know I’m really protecting my skin :)

iS Clinical Cleansing Complex

I’ve been using my Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Cleanser (Reviewed here) in the mornings, and a more deep-cleansing cleanser at night, in which I chose Cellnique Vital Repair Cleansing Milk (The old formula, reviewed here) because I find that this combination helps to keep congestion, particularly around my nose and chin area at bay better. And to my logic, doing so also removes all traces of the day or whatever sunscreen and/or makeup you had on, which equals cleaner skin :D However, as I’ve just finished a bottle of my Cellnique Vital Repair Cleansing Milk and looking at my dwindling backup supply, I thought I should look for alternatives :x

Somehow, as I was trawling the internet for options on cleansers, I stumbled upon iS Clinical Cleansing Complex and was immediately intrigued. I was close to ordering it via StrawberryNet, but then found out that The Lifestyle Clinic & The Skin Boutique (The Skin Boutique is where I go for my facial treatments) sells it, so I got it from them instead because I couldn’t wait :P

The 100% Pure Konjac Sponge

Admittedly I haven’t been trying out anything new for my skin for a while now in terms of skincare- I’m happy with the way my skin is and with my routine and thus don’t want to do anything to disrupt it :P However, during a (not-so anymore) recent Zuneta spree with the lovely Lily from Chloe.Ash, I was intrigued with something called Konjac Sponge, and ordered it. I liked it, found its main website- The Konjac Sponge Company, and since they ship directly to Malaysia without minimum orders and at a low rate, ordered some more.

So now I’ve got two of the 100% Pure Konjac Sponge, a Konjac Sponge With Added French Pink Clay and a Konjac French Red Clay Sponge, but I shall review the one I like and have been using which is the 100% Pure Konjac Sponge. I haven’t tried the Pink Clay and Red Clay ones yet anyway :P

The Original 100% Pure Konjac Sponge

The Original Pure Konjac Facial Sponge Puff – Made with nothing but 100% top quality food grade Konjac (Konnyaku) plant root.

Konjac is reputed for its health giving properties & used by the Japanese for over 1500 years, having originally been used as a medicine in the sixth century.

– 100% Natural Sponge
– 100% Colouring Free
– 100% Additive Free
– 100% Biodegradable
– Naturally Sustainable
– Environmentally Safe
– Naturally Moisturising
– A naturally moisture rich plant fibre which is by nature alkaline, and thus balances the acidity of the skins impurities and oils.

The unique net like structure of the sponge, gently massages the skin and stimulates blood flow and new growth of skin cells. Leaving the skin extremely clean and refreshed… naturally! No need for additional cleansers or soaps unless you really want. Should you chose to use additional cleansers or soap, you ca use a fraction of your usual amount, as the sponge will generate more bubbles and spread the cleaner further than usual. Better for your skin, better on the environment and your finances!.

Excellent for all skin types even those with hypersensitive skin.

That’s a pretty long spiel, but it describes exactly what a konjac sponge is to those who are uninitiated. Basically, it’s a facial cleansing sponge that touts many benefits. The one on the left is from The Konjac Sponge Company, which is dehydrated, whilst the one on the right is from Zuneta.

My Skincare And Makeup Routine February 2012

Being mildly obsessive compulsive, I like having a routine, and my skincare routine especially is one thing I never skip irregardless. There were a few times that I fell sick, but I still managed to go on with my skincare routine :P It just feels so awkward and weird just not having done my skincare routine! :\

Now I thought I’d let you all have a little peek into my “virtual” cupboard and let you see my skincare and makeup routine :P

So this is what I do in the mornings:

I cleanse with Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Cleanser, tone with Cellnique Soothing And Hydrating Lotion, apply Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Complex followed by Melvita Calendula Oil and top it off with Marie Veronique Organics Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30- Light Tint. Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Eye Serum goes around my peepers after cleansing and before everything else.

Dr Andrew Weil For Origins

I remember reading about the Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Serum and seeing its adverts in magazines when it still had the word Plantidote in its name, but the Dr Andrew Weil For Origins range and Origins in general had never really attracted me for some reason, until 2008 when I bought the Christmas set out of a whim. It came with the range’s cleanser, serum and moisturiser. I used it a few times and remembered thinking “Meh” and “Nothing special” and had never touched it, until recently when my interest in it was sparked again. Of course the products from the Christmas set were too old to be used already by then so I bought the serum and tried it again, but after prolonged continuous use my skin didn’t like it by erupting in small pimples (But nothing major). I shelved it and I thought that was the end of trying the range and the brand for me.

Then my cleanser crisis came along and I was still on the hunt for the “one” replacement cleanser, and decided to give the cleanser a try again. To date I ended up with two products from the Dr Andrew Weil For Origins range :P

Dr Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Cleanser

This milky cleanser features Dr Weil’s proprietary Mega-Mushroom blend plus skin soothing Bisabolol from Chamomile. Gently, yet effectively melts makeup, dirt, debris and impurities without upsetting sensitive skin. Leaves skin comfortably clean and calm. Great for sensitive and reactive skin.
