Bunny Brooch From iamsjm*

*Waves* Hello! Apologies for the serious lack of updates- lots of things have happened that are occupying my time which leaves me with none to write even though I’ve amassed a huge collection of potential products that I want to review in the meantime!

I’ve been contemplating on what product to review as my first “proper” beauty-related review of 2013… but I only have photos of foundations and my current crushes are a foundation and a cleanser, and they’re products which I’ve been reviewing a lot… I haven’t been free enough to photograph the eyeshadows and eyeshadow palettes that I’m using and loving so far, so I thought I’d do something different for this one! It’s something beauty-related at least, still, and something I really really adore! :P

Now I have a serious love for handmade items. When I read Trona of Aye Lined‘s post about a handmade porcelain Bunny Brooch from iamsjm*, I was immediately smitten! Doesn’t help that my husband calls me “bunny” or “rabbit” affectionately at times ever since we started dating on account of my “rabbit teeth”, so deep down inside I do have a little soft spot for bunnies/rabbits :P  I don’t usually wear brooches though and have never owned one properly myself (The only one I have is a vintage one from Mum which I never wore), but this was just too cute to resist!

Bunny Brooch 1

So I got one. iamsjm* themselves don’t ship internationally, but an email inquiring about it pointed me to Not On The High Street, where they listed it for me, so I was able to get my hands on it! Hurrah for wonderful customer service here :D

It comes in a small, simple yet beautiful, monogrammed gift box and is well-lined and well-packed to protect against any bumps in transit.

Lovely Fings From Fushigi Shop

As I’ve mentioned in this previous post of mine, I have a huge thing for handmade items as they make me happy, and one of my favourite avenues for beautiful handmade things at the moment is Fushigi Shop, introduced to me by none other than Sukie from A Little Bit Of Everything (You are a bad, bad influence, missy).

Fushigi Shop is the wonderful creation of the lovely Yasumi, curator of the House Of Blues, also known as Worshipblues. Not only does she write in the most whimsically beautiful way and takes simply stunning photographs, her creations are astoundingly bespoke and in a word: gorgeous. In the own words of Fushigi Shop themselves: “This is no ordinary shop“, and I can assure you that it really isn’t!

Dear Sukie was my catalyst to owning the “fings” (As Yasumi calls them) I have from Fushigi Shop– not one, but two pretty “fings”! :D And I dare say now that I am mightily pleased as punch with them, and you shall see why :)

I mentioned that I love handmade items because of the personal touches that comes with them, not just from the item itself (Which is crafted with much love and care), but everything surrounding it, for example the packaging that they come with- which in this case is aesthetically pleasing to me. I don’t know, it gives me a lovely vintage-like feel, and is definitely perfect as a gift! The labels also have a little thank you note on them, at the back ;)

Moniko Handmade Vintage Kimono Clutches

I have a really HUGE thing for anything handmade. Even better if they feature Japanese fabrics or prints, which I personally find very beautiful most of the time. So having stumbled upon these lovely clutches, handmade from vintage kimono, at a shop called Allison’s Place in Damansara Heights (When dearest Mummy and I ended up to run some company-related errands), I was over the moon. Not only is it handmade and of Japanese fabric, but also vintage, which is a huge plus! And kimono, which I really, really love.

Random fact: I own a vintage kimono (Just the kimono, apart from my two yukata sets), which is very very beautiful but very very expensive, and I am looking forward to expanding my collection in the near future hehe!

They are handmade by Moniko, and to be more specific, they’re made from vintage kimono obi, which are the “belts” or sash of the kimono and are thicker and sturdier than the kimono itself. These in particular were made from fukuro obi, which are obi worn at ceremonial and celebratory events. Each clutch comes with a little description and story about the fabric used (One- the one with the green design, dates back from the year 1970), as well as a product number, which makes it really so unique at the same time!

OK enough teasing I guess!

The Brush Guard- Blush (S) And Foundation (M)

I love brushes :P Especially face brushes. Over time I think I’ve amassed quite a collection of them: The Body Shop Blusher Brush, Sephora Collection Classic Mineral Powder Brush #45, MAC 129SH Powder Blush Brush, Sigma F15 Duo Fibre Powder/Blush Brush, Real Techniques Blush Brush, Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush, Ecotools Bamboo Powder Brush, Lunasol Powder Brush N, Lunasol Cheek Brush N and RMK Cheek Brush S. And being the OCD person I am, I tend to be quite obsessive about keeping them clean, considering how they come into contact with my face!

I clean my brushes once a week at the very least with M.A.C Brush Cleanser (The best brush cleanser I have used and tried in my opinion- I went through bottles of this), or every time I change powders or foundations and want to use that same particular brush I’ve been using. I honestly forgot where I first heard about The Brush Guard from, but being a clean freak who wants to keep her brushes as clean and “uncontaminated” as possible, got them especially as my brush collection grew :P

The Brush GuardBlush Pack (S) and Foundation Pack (M)

The Brush Guard, according to its site, is supposed to protect your brushes, not just in general, but also from the “ickies”- old makeup, dead skin cells, bacteria, dust and dirt and oil. It also supposedly makes travelling with and storing brushes more convenient and easy.

Accessories From Sweet Contemplation Accessories

I’ve known about Sweet Contemplation Accessories since its inception in 2009, as I also follow the beauty blog of Tine, the founder/creator/designer and all-over brains and hands behind it :) I love all her creations, but have often shied away or for some reason put off purchasing something. Maybe it’s because of the variety of choices, though I still have my eye on the Byzantium bracelet :P

You can also be assured that anything from Sweet Contemplation Accessories is handcrafted and one-of-a-kind! They have a large variety of accessories and also do custom orders ;)

My first experience with something from Sweet Contemplation Accessories was from the My Women Stuff Reader’s Choice Awards 2011, where all the attendees were given a necklace as part of its goodie bag- we weren’t told what it is, but it’s something! It turned out to be a really pretty, really well-made long dangly necklace. I was impressed and am pretty much very in love with it :)

Then I saw the necklace on this post and then on Twitter, and I was enamoured. I didn’t think much, and immediately requested for one :P It was a custom order, taking several emails to finalise the details, and I was super excited when it arrived, as it was my very first proper purchase from Sweet Contemplation Accessories! It looks way better in real life and when worn, and is simple yet elegant at the same time.

I’ll make a confession here though- I’d only wear the necklaces during special occasions or when the occasion calls for the need for them though. I tend to be quite loyal to the jewellery I am currently wearing and hardly take them off and switch around :x That, and I don’t want to risk accidentally ruining these lovely pieces! They do, of course, have a place of pride and love in my heart and are displayed out because they’re just too special and pretty to be relagated to the insides of my jewellery box :P
