M.A.C Lipstick In Russian Red

I have caved. I finally gave in to the allure of red lips and got myself a proper red lipstick. The closest I got was Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Monte Carlo (A review will be up, I promise), and for MWS Awards last October in which the “dress code” was red lips, I used a lip liner (Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Gash) as a lipstick, which were, in my opinion, still great alternatives :P I’m not very adventurous when it comes to lipsticks, preferring nude-coloured lipsticks, lipglosses or tinted lip balms instead, you’ll know why later!

I redeemed the classic Russian Red from my nearby M.A.C outlet via the Back To M.A.C program- you know, 6 M.A.C empties (In my case it was bottles of the M.A.C Brush Cleanser) for a lipstick (Note: The sales advisor I asked confirmed that it only applied lipsticks, but it does not apply to the Viva Glam) after much dithering on what shade I should get, and in the end I just bit the bullet and just settled with Russian Red because it’s “famous” :P

Sunday Tip #14

Every Sunday I shall share here a beauty tip that I’ve read or heard about, and leave my comments or thoughts on it. Please feel free to leave your views, too! :)

This week’s tip is courtesy of Lisa Eldridge, which was mentioned in this video of hers (Again, no thanks to Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything). It’s a good tip to use for when you’ve been crying, or have swollen eyes/eyelids due to allergies for example and need to look presentable for whatever reason :P But that’s apparently not exactly the only thing it’ll do, apparently as I’ve found out, though this is based on my experimentations!

I’ve only recently begun to seriously experiment and play with and use eyeshadows, mainly because I’ve just gotten my hands on the Urban Decay Naked2 palette on Tuesday (I am seriously loving it, by the way), and I find that using a matte shade, in this case the shade Tease from the palette, actually makes your eyes look a little “sunken in” and as a result, for me, my eyes looked bigger with deeper-looking eye sockets! According to Lisa Eldridge in the video, matte eyeshadows recesses the eye area while shimmery eyeshadows would bring it forward, and I do find it’s quite true so I thought I should share this :D

Hmm… maybe I should add a few more matte eyeshadows to my collection to experiment and play around with… and for that I am currently eyeing TheBalm Meet Matt(e) palette! :P

Saturday Meme- 5 Favourite Foods

It has been a very busy and hectic few weeks (Perhaps month, or even months ahead) for me as work hasn’t shown signs of slowing down, even after coming back from Labuan, that I missed last week’s Sunday Tip (I wanted to post one on later on the day but ended up needing to work too, such is the industry I’m in!), but I promise that I will try my best to not make that happen again! Apologies and please do bear with my sporadic posts, though I will still endeavour to get some posts written and posted :)

Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything and I did initially have something else planned for this week’s Saturday Meme, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it will have to wait (Or in worst case scenario it will be scrapped), but it will be something different, that we can promise (Unless of course it’s scrapped)! So instead for this week, in keeping with our self-proclaimed #VainGlutton tag, Sukie and I have decided to still do something a little different, to divert a little from beauty-related things and show you our 5 Favourite Foods! :D

1. Fourway crab crackers

Oh these are the bomb! They are ONLY available in East Malaysia (As they are made there, according to the back), this is confirmed, unless you have seen them somewhere in West Malaysia in which case please feel free to correct me. The exclusivity adds to the delicious unique-ness of this snack, and now my family and/or I tend to always lug some back from Labuan, after which it will be gone pretty quickly. I don’t usually take snacks like these, as too much can make me feel ill, and I don’t really like the taste of most snacks available in the market (Save some crisps), but I could devour an entire large pack (Pictured is a small pack) of this in one sitting and not feel ill at all and I love how it tastes! I really can’t describe how it really looks/feels/tastes (Savoury is the best word I could find to describe it’s taste at least) but I can only say that it’s simply awesome! :P

2. Pasta

Image nicked from here.

Lasagna, linguine, fettucine, penne, bolognese, arabbiata, puttanesca, marinara- it all doesn’t matter but I really like them all, and would order pasta most of the time if they are available :P My favourite pasta jaunt is Little Italy in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Gosh I seem to be advertising East Malaysia so far am I not? Not my intention though, sorry), a small, lovely place owned and managed by real Italians and serves the best Italian fare ever, that all the other Italian restaurants I’ve been to in West Malaysia so far can’t exactly match up (Recommendations/Suggestions welcome). I have extremely fond memories of their marinara pasta and their lemonade, and their zuppa di mare (Seafood soup) and I look forward to be able to make my next trip there as it’s been a long while and I miss it a lot!

Lovely Fings From Fushigi Shop

As I’ve mentioned in this previous post of mine, I have a huge thing for handmade items as they make me happy, and one of my favourite avenues for beautiful handmade things at the moment is Fushigi Shop, introduced to me by none other than Sukie from A Little Bit Of Everything (You are a bad, bad influence, missy).

Fushigi Shop is the wonderful creation of the lovely Yasumi, curator of the House Of Blues, also known as Worshipblues. Not only does she write in the most whimsically beautiful way and takes simply stunning photographs, her creations are astoundingly bespoke and in a word: gorgeous. In the own words of Fushigi Shop themselves: “This is no ordinary shop“, and I can assure you that it really isn’t!

Dear Sukie was my catalyst to owning the “fings” (As Yasumi calls them) I have from Fushigi Shop– not one, but two pretty “fings”! :D And I dare say now that I am mightily pleased as punch with them, and you shall see why :)

I mentioned that I love handmade items because of the personal touches that comes with them, not just from the item itself (Which is crafted with much love and care), but everything surrounding it, for example the packaging that they come with- which in this case is aesthetically pleasing to me. I don’t know, it gives me a lovely vintage-like feel, and is definitely perfect as a gift! The labels also have a little thank you note on them, at the back ;)

Saturday Meme- 5 Things That Make You Happy

Hello! Am already back in Kuala Lumpur since Monday evening but have been busy playing catch up with some things (And chores) and I am apparently still recovering from “jet lag”, hence the lack of a “normal” post this whole week, even though I did plan to have one up :x But I thought this would be a good prompt to get me back into the groove! That, and I’m kind of cracking my head with what to review- reason will be up next week, so stay tuned as regular posting will hopefully by next week! :P

Anyway, to kick start today’s Saturday Meme, again with my dear Sukie of A Little Bit of Everything, we’ll be talking about 5 Things That Make You Happy! I do think I definitely have more than 5 things that would make me happy (As is the case with every Saturday Meme), but these are the ones that had immediately sprung to my mind when I was writing this up, so here’s mine in no particular order! :)

1. Books

Image nicked from here.

I absolutely love love love books. Nothing can beat books in my book (Pun intended), especially physical books. I’ve been told I could read since I was 2 years old and I have never looked back since. Want to keep me quiet? Just throw me a book and I will be, and I can spend a lot of time pottering about a bookstore >_< I will literally read anything, except autobiographies or biographies (For some reason, I don’t like them), and I dream of one day owning my own private library/reading room with ceiling-to-floor bookcases for my books, which I have a lot of because I read quite fast and hence go through a lot of them :P Buying and reading books just give me great pleasure.

2. Wind Chimes

Image nicked from here.

For some reason I am apparently quite partial to the sound of wind chimes- metal, glass, bamboo, ceramic/porcelain, whatever, as it makes me feel happy and most of all calm. Why? I’m not too sure myself, but it’s a very welcome sound to my ears :) Too bad most of the time it doesn’t seem to be windy enough here, as the wind chimes hung on my front porch hardly make any noise. Maybe that or they need a windier place hmmm.
