WAXXX: My First Waxing Experience

I got “introduced” to WAXXX after reading Skin Deco’s review about it, and was immediately intrigued. Now, I’m a complete waxing virgin- I’ve never waxed any part of my body, and I’ve never even attempted waxing by myself. So what made me choose WAXXX as the place for my first ever waxing experience, when there are many other waxing salons? First of all, they are near- they’re located in Aman Suria, which isn’t too far from where I’m staying. Most of the more established and/or reputable waxing salons that I’ve heard and/or read of are usually located in Bangsar, which can be a little annoying when it comes to traffic and/or parking, and is quite a distance from my place.

Then, there was the Depilar System, which was the real icing on the cake. WAXXX is so far the only waxing salon in Malaysia that carries and/or offers the Depilar System, which is a permanent hair removal system based on enzymes, and is an alternative to procedures such as lasers and IPL (Intense Pulse Light) methods. It’s applied after waxing and slowly inhibits the growth of hair, and when performed at regular 4 week intervals over 12-24 months (Depending on area), one will see results similar to that of the laser and IPL methods, but this is easier, cheaper and less risky.

So which area did I decide to try my first waxing and the Depilar System on?

Sunday Tip #2

Every Sunday I shall share here a beauty tip that I’ve read or heard about, and leave my comments or thoughts on it. Please feel free to leave your views, too! :)

Who doesn’t love a good massage- facial or body? :) I do this all the time with every step and product I apply on my face except my foundation because I use a brush for that :P It helps me to relax even for just a brief moment, as it evokes my facial experiences in which the massage is my favourite part, and all the facials I’ve experienced thus far usually do a good job on it (Touch wood) and I do feel really relaxed then. I may not be an expert in facial massage- I tap the products in and/or massage them all over my face using a combination of my fingertips and palms with upward and outward strokes, but it does make me feel slightly better. As for my body, I use mainly circular motions and long downward strokes when applying body lotion. Just do what makes you feel good and what you can!

You can search for facial massage techniques on Youtube, obviously, and I find that Viva Woman also writes good articles about it as well. Search for “facial massage” and you can get them :D

Cleanser Crisis Showdown

Those who follow me on Twitter should know that I’ve been having what I call a “cleanser crisis”, no thanks to reformulations. Seriously, why do companies see the need to reformulate when their product is already doing well, and to boot, the reformulation is often not improving the product but deteriorating its quality. OK, don’t answer that- I actually do know why, but nevertheless I am not pleased. Nope, not at all.

My first “cleanser crisis” was sometime early this year. I have been a happy, satisfied, long time user of Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser (About 5-6 years) and range, and their reformulated version of the cleanser as well as the range broke me out badly. It broke my heart like nothing, as I’m a pretty loyal skincare user. I turned to my cousin, who is a beautician and owns the Cellnique salon De Fennel Face Body Wellness in Desa Petaling, and she recommended me Cellnique Vital Repair Cleansing Milk, which I have been happily using since then.

Lo and behold, my joy was short-lived when I recently restocked on the cleanser and found that it had been reformulated, and what’s worse, it has mineral oil/paraffinum liquidum added to it. Now, I am extremely sensitive to this ingredient, and it caused whiteheads and broke me out. Even my cousin was appalled and she wouldn’t recommend mineral oil to my skin type either.

Since then, I have been trying out a few cleansers, hoping that they could replace the Cellnique Vital Repair Cleansing Milk, and here are my results so far.

From left to right: Cellnique Vital Repair Cleansing Milk (Old), Cellnique Vital Repair Cleansing Milk (New), Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Gel Wash, Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution, Jurlique Soothing Cleansing Lotion.

Sunday Tip #1

Every Sunday I shall share here a beauty tip that I’ve read or heard about, and leave my comments or thoughts on it. Please feel free to leave your views, too! :)

I use a lot of products, apparently. Instead of the usual cleanse > tone > moisturise routine, my routine in the morning consists of cleanser > toner > sensitive skin serum > hydrating serum > moisturiser > sunscreen > foundation and at night it consists of cleansing oil > cleanser > toner > sensitive skin serum > hydrating serum > face oil. My skin has never been better, though (Touch wood!), and my routine has been working for me for quite some time already. I’ve tried cutting down on the amount of steps and products, mainly the serums, in an effort to reduce the amount of products on my skin and to probably save time, but my skin didn’t like it.

I think it’s more important, however, to properly cleanse your face properly to reduce congestion and subsequently breakouts. Think of all the pollution and grime that are potentially accumulated on your face during the day (And also night), coupled with your sunscreen and makeup. And as usual, never go to bed with makeup still on! I find that if my face is not properly cleansed those tiny rough bumps all over my skin will appear, so I make every effort to take everything off my face properly.

Also, if you’re familiar with Japanese (Or East Asian such as Korean)-style skincare you will know that they also incorporate a lot of products into their routine, and they take every pain to ensure that their skin looks good, and most often it works (Correct me if I’m wrong). It could be a combination of factors but I also find that using the proper skincare that suits your skin type also helps a lot. For me my skin is mainly sensitive and dry, and to reduce irritation, pore congestion and breakouts I use sensitivity-reducing and hydrating skincare. Using unsuitable products may irritate your skin, clog your pores and/or cause breakouts, which happens in my case.

So, what do you think? Use a lot of products (Within reason), or less is more?

I Love Uniqlo!

Yes, my love for Uniqlo warrants its own blog post :P It’s also partly suggested/recommended by Giddy Tigress, who mentioned something fashion-related for a change, and I had this post drafted on my personal blog for quite some time already so why not?

Uniqlo is a Japanese casual apparel brand and retail store that is apparently quite famous in Japan, and has outlets not only here in Malaysia, but also in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea and even Russia, France, the United Kingdom and also the United States.

My love affair for Uniqlo started in August 2010 during my trip to Singapore, at the 313@Somerset in Orchard Road outlet to be more precise. I have heard about the store and brand before, but did not really expect to find it in Singapore, so it was a pleasant surprise :P And as seeing as there was no Uniqlo in Malaysia yet, bought a few things that caught my eye.

In November 2010 the first Uniqlo store in Malaysia opened in Fahrenheight 88, later followed by an outlet in Suria KLCC, and most recently, a year after the first outlet, they opened in 1 Utama.

My collection since then has grown :P
