Fujifilm Astalift Jelly Aquarysta

Yes you heard right- Fujifilm, a brand name synonymous with film, cameras, photography and imaging, being associated with skincare. Who would’ve thought? As it turns out from what I’ve read, it’s actually been quite a while already (With Fujifilm incorporating and linking their knowledge of keeping photos great into skincare to keep skin great and looking photogenic as well), and the Astalift Jelly Aquarysta from Fujifilm‘s skincare brand Astalift is apparently quite a famous and award-winning premium skincare product in Japan that’s also fast becoming a cult beauty product in the U.K.! Anyway, I was only recently introduced to this concept and subsequently product, by the lovely Sukie of A Little Bit Of Everything, and I was immediately intrigued as despite not having much reviews being written about it, most if not all the reviews were absolutely glowing and sung its praises.

After much researching on where I could get Astalift locally in Malaysia (Apparently it is available locally, though the locations are quite limited), I was able to get my hands on my first 40g tub of the Astalift Jelly Aquarysta at their roadshow counter at AEON in 1 Utama :D I’ve recently restocked it since I was in MidValley Megamall, where the counter is in the AEON there, and managed to get a limited edition 60g tub instead!

Fujifilm Astalift Jelly Aquarysta

Its unique name is derived from AQUA and CRYSTAL, which symbolises the light-as-water texture of the clear red jelly, and the crystal-clear, moisturised skin it brings.

A jelly serum focuses to improve skin moisture retention ability, promotes long-lasting radiance and clearness. With the moisturising nano ceramide penetrates into skin’s stratum corneum, skin feels smooth and moist.

Astalift Jelly Aquarysta comes in a beautiful and elegant-looking, highly-reflective shiny red plastic tub with gold lettering. Despite it being plastic, the is actually quite hefty, solid and sturdy- I accidentally dropped it and there were no signs of damage on it, not even a scratch! The box it comes with is ombre red and gold with red and gold lettering, and matte dark red inside. Included (Wrapped in plastic inside the box) in the 60g tub is a metal spatula with the Astalift name and logo on it, but the 40g tub came with a plastic spatula, as pictured above.

The shiny red  metallic-looking lid (Which has the Astalift logo embossed in gold on the centre of the top of the lid) is screwed open to reveal a thick white plastic protective cover for the jelly underneath, which comes equipped with a helpful pull-tab for easier opening. The plastic spatula can be stored on the white plastic protective cover under the lid (Which I do as pictured), but the metal one was too big to do so :( The spatula is included for a reason- it’s much better than your fingers for use of scooping up the jelly :P

The Astalift Jelly Aquarysta is a skincare category on its own- a pre-“lotion” serum. According to the sales assistants and website, it is meant to be used right after cleansing, before lotion and whatever skincare product goes on next, though if you’re using a wipe-off toner the jelly is used after toner. It goes on quite cool, and I usually massage it all over my face until it “dries”. It does feel a little tacky afterwards, but my skin does look and feel soothed, plump and hydrated. It looks reddish and smells of roses, and together with its consistency reminds me of rose jelly or Turkish Delight, though I am not a huge fan of rose scents and Turkish Delight, but this did not bother me at all! :)

The texture of the Astalift Jelly Aquarysta, like its name, is jelly-like, but uniquely, after scooping away some of the jelly, or if you’ve made a dent in it, the jelly in the tub will “fix” itself back into a smooth surface after a while. Contrary to popular belief it is not hard to squish the jelly between your fingertips and apply it all over your face. Only a little is actually required, though having to scoop it up one can’t always  estimate the “right” amount to use, so sometimes I do still end up using too little or too much- it’s a little trial and error there.

This is definitely a skincare staple for me despite it’s steep price, but I see it as a pretty good investment as I use less of all my other skincare products in the long run, cutting down the cost, and my skin does look and feel clearer and better. My sensitive (As well as dry/dehydrated on the side) skin simply loves it! I can really see why it’s such a famous product and making a name for itself, because it really does work and does its claims of keeping the skin luminous and well-moisturised, and did not cause me any irritation and/or breakouts (Touch wood)! :D

It costs RM 348 for a 40g tub and is available at the Astalift Skincare Boutique in Menara Axis and Astalift counters in AEON in MidValley Megamall, AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang, AEON Wangsa Maju, AEON Bandaraya Melaka Shopping Centre and AEON in Queensbay Mall. It also comes in a 15g tub for RM 198 (If I am not mistaken), while the limited edition 60g tub cost me RM 468.
